Mill Creek Cemetery

Lisa McCray has photographed the Mill Creek cemetery for the Botetourt Genealogy Club's Cemetery photograph project. I am in the process of posting these to the Botetourt County website at Rootsweb.

This was a big project for Lisa to do for us and my appreciation goes out to her.

Rootsweb

Several years ago I began a volunteer for Rootsweb. I monitor mail list, and message boards and do web administration for several Virginia counties including Loudoun, Augusta (mail list only), Rockbridge, Botetourt, Craig (web site only), Roanoke, Floyd, Franklin, Patrick, and Nelson (web site only).

This is a big responsibility and requires people skills, and dedication.

I'll post the links to these counties at a later time.

Family

I have a beautiful daughter that lives out of state, and two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Photograph to the right..
I am blessed to still have my mother who is up in years and i lost my grandmother who died at age 101. I have researched my family tree extensively and have traced my Hatcher family to early colonial days in Virginia, He came from England and was a headstrong fellow, fined by the king for saying his mind. Wonder where i got that trait.

This is a photo of my greatgranddaughter, who's name is Miss Elizabeth. She carry's the prefix as she is the first Elizabeth in my direct line since May 1796 when Thomas Jewell married Elizabrth Graham right here in Botetourt County, Virginia.

I grew up in Montgomery County, went to school in Riner, Va. I graduated in a class of 16 students in 1963. I bet this was the smallest class in history of the school.

I have a half brother and three half sisters.

I moved to Pennsylvania and lived there for 30 years more or less and after the death of my second husband in 1994, I came back to Botetourt County to live. I took a waitress job to decide what to do and have an income till I could get my head together. Eight years ago I was able to secure a job with the Botetourt County Library system, in Fincastle Library. I have made many friends and acquaintences in the Library.

I enjoy Genealogy, and Computer.

Genealogy

Every time I get a moment i'm working on something to make the Genealogy room in the Fincastle Library better. We have some realy unique items for the viewing pleasure of the researcher that comes to Fincastle to research their roots.
1. Funeral Records for various funeral homes in the area. I say area since we have records from Botetourt, Alleghany, and Montgomery.
2. Scrapbooks are a good source of birth, marriage, and death dates.
3. Marriage records
4. Genealogy collections from several family donations.

I'm always looking for a new book, or publication that may be of interest to the visitors in Fincastle.
